Descartes
From: The Know-It-All
This was on The Know-It-All Calendar for the 19th of April.
Tom Panelas, Britannica’s publicist, will tell the occasional intellectual joke. Like:
“René Descartes walks into a bar. The bartender says, ‘Yo, René, how you doing? Can I get you a beer?’
‘I think not,’ replies Descartes. And then he disappears.”
After which joke, Tom will immediately apologize.
The Know-It-All Calendar, 19 April 2006.
Okay, maybe I should apologize too…

Back to Early 1996
A Stolen Survey
I read this survey about a few friends who were posting this on their blogs (Beth, Colleen & Vinney), and have stolen it from them to take and post about me.
Ten years ago, it was early 1996. Take this survey, post, and see how many things have changed since then.
- How old were you: 17.
- What grade were you in: Senior, high school.
- Where did you go to school: Apple Valley High School.
- Where did you work: No where.
- Where did you live: Apple Valley, Minnesota.
- How was your hair style: straight, medium, boring.
- Did you wear braces: No.
- Did you wear contacts: Yes.
- Did you wear glasses: On and off.
- Who was your best friend: Nick & Kyle.
- Who was your boyfriend/girlfriend: Megan.
- Who was your celebrity crush: None in particular.
- Who was your regular-person crush: Megan.
- Were you a virgin: Yes.
- How many piercings did you have: None.
- How many tattoos did you have: None.
- What was your favorite band/singer/rapper: Hootie & the Blowfish.
- Had you smoked a cigarette yet: No.
- Had you gotten drunk or high yet: Yes/No.
- Had you driven yet: Yes.
- If so, which car: 1995 Dodge Neon.
- Which of your pets were still alive: Ernie, a Chinese Shar-Pei (dog).
- Looking back, are you where you thought you would be in 1996: No. I had figured back then that I would be involved in physics or mathematics on the research side.
- If you could change one thing from the past 10 years, what would it be: To be honest, I am not sure what I would change. There are always many little things, but changing some of them alters the way the present and the future would turn out. When things are going fairly well right now, why risk that? If I could win the lottery or something like that within the last week or two… okay, that might work!
Take it! Your turn!
