As we enter 2004 …
Deployments strain families
As we all enter the New Year, it is important for us all not to forget the troops deployed worldwide. Our family is especially close to this, since a member of the Schlukebier family is in Bosnia. Chris, a second-cousin of mine, is currently deployed in Bosnia. He will be there well into 2004 and has been there for quite a while now. I am not an emotional writer and cannot begin to express how the greater Schlukebier family misses him
An article on StarTribune.com was recently published about the strain suffered by his family (his wife and three daughters) and other families in similar situations. Here is a quote from the article:
Chris Schlukebier spent Christmas in a tent, guarding an explosives disposal site in Bosnia.
Lynda Schlukebier and their three daughters spent Christmas Eve in their new Rosemount home, without Chris over the holidays for the first time since Lynda and Chris were married 15 years ago.
Lynda said they kept telling each other: “If we can all just get through Christmas, we’ll all just be OK.”
Please read the article.
We all miss him and hope for his safe return!
